PERFORMANCE JUDO

Performance sport is built over years of consistent effort, learning and commitment.

Whether your ambition is national representation, international competition or simply discovering how far your potential can take you, our Performance Judo Programme provides an environment where ambitious athletes can continue to grow.

If you're ready to invest in your development, we'd love to hear from you.

WHY OUR PERFORMANCE PROGRAM EXISTS

Our Performance Judo Programme exists to help ambitious athletes access the coaching, experiences and support needed to reach their potential.

Through experienced coaching, structured planning and a performance focused training environment, athletes are guided through each stage of their development alongside like-minded judoka pursuing similar ambitions.

The programme is designed to help athletes progress towards national squad selection, international competition and success at European, World and Olympic level.

Built on Partnership

Our Performance Judo Programme complements existing club, provincial and national structures. It is designed to add value, not replace them.

The programme is open to athletes from every club. There is no requirement to leave or change clubs, and athletes may continue to represent their home club in competition.

We believe athletes benefit most when coaches, clubs, parents and support networks work together. Through the programme, athletes can access additional training, guidance and opportunities while remaining connected to the wider judo community.

When athletes improve, their clubs benefit. When clubs benefit, Irish Judo becomes stronger.

Our philosophy is simple:
the athlete comes first.

Is This Programme Right for You?

This programme is designed for athletes who want to develop their judo, train with purpose and progress towards higher-level competition.

We welcome athletes who are willing to train consistently, respond positively to coaching and contribute to a strong performance culture.

Athletes do not need to be established high performers, but they should be prepared to work hard, compete regularly and be committed to their long-term development.

Training and Performance Support

Every athlete has different goals, experience and support needs. To reflect this, our Performance Judo Programme offers two broad levels of participation. The Performance Director works with each athlete to shape an approach that best supports their development and long-term ambitions.

Training Only

For athletes who want to train regularly with the Performance Team while continuing to manage the rest of their development independently.

Performance Programme

For athletes who want a more structured level of performance support alongside their regular club and Performance Team training.

In addition to training, athletes receive broader guidance, planning and support to help them progress over the long term.

The Standards We Expect

Performance sport requires commitment, discipline and consistency. We expect athletes to train regularly, respond positively to coaching, communicate openly and approach both training and competition with professionalism. Athletes should respect their teammates, coaches and opponents, prepare properly, recover well and show the resilience to learn from setbacks.
